For cataract surgery, no special patient preparation is required. You may continue taking your regular medication as prescribed, except for Tamsulosin (also known under brand names Flomax, Omnic, Tanyz, etc.) There is no need to skip blood thinners such as aspirin. Some patients are prescribed pills, which must be taken on the day of the operation. They are given the pills at the clinic, together with detailed instructions on how to take them. On the day of the surgery, you can have breakfast as usual and take your medication as prescribed. The surgery is performed under local anaesthesia in the form of eye drops, so there is no need for you to come on an empty stomach.
