Medical Examination by an Ophthalmologist

During an examination at our Ophthalmology Clinic, the doctor will first determine your visual acuity. This will help the doctor assess whether the cataract produces such opacity of the lens that your vision is impaired. If your cataract interferes with your vision to the point that it makes everyday tasks difficult, it is time to consider cataract surgery. Of course you will have to make the decision yourself, based on how much the blurred vision interferes with your driving, reading, watching television, etc. During the examination, the doctor will dilate your pupils, as this is necessary to thoroughly evaluate the condition of the lens. Following pupil dilation you cannot drive for six hours, so please arrange to have someone drive you, or take the bus. After the examination, a date for the surgery will be scheduled and you will be given a questionnaire on your regular medication and general medical condition. You will also be given a complete description of the cataract surgery and a list of test results to bring with you on the day of the surgery.
